Don’t be the easy victim
Criminals are not looking for a challenge. They want the easy score. Crime prevention is all about being a more difficult victim than the next guy. There is no such thing as perfect security. Your best bet on staying safe and unvictimized is to be a more difficult victim than the next guy and to look like you’re more trouble than your worth. Look around your neighborhood. Whose house looks like the easiest target? If the answer is yours consider yourself forewarned. The next time you’re out in public look at the people around you. How many of them look like easier targets than you? If the answer is none or not many, you’re at risk. In the next post I’ll talk about somethings you can do to reduce your vulnerabilities.
Where do you park your car?
Where do you park your car? Do you just look for shade and a short walk or do you think about safety? Is the walk between where you’re going and your parking spot safe? Will it be safe at night or will you have to walk through shadows and out of sight spaces, spaces that are good for hidden ambushes? Ensuring that the space you choose to park your car is clearly visible, well lighted and accessible without walking through unsafe areas, even at night, can be the difference between an uneventful trip home and being the latest victim of violent crime.
